China and Pakistan to jointly develop power projects

China is encouraging and will support Chinese companies that participate in energy and electric power projects in Pakistan.

President Hu Jintao broached to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari a five point proposal the Chinese hope will cement and advance the China-Pakistan strategic and cooperative partnership.

"China will continue to provide assistance for Pakistan's economic and social development within our capacity," said Hu.

Zardari said he welcomed Chinese enterprises that seek to expand their investments in Pakistan, especially in the energy sector and infrastructure construction. He also thanked China for its support of Pakistan's maintenance of domestic stability and development.

Pakistan will continue to support China on issues concerning China's core interests and to be tough on terrorism, said Zardari.

Hu hoped both nations will deepen pragmatic cooperation, especially in the sectors of energy, trade, transportation infrastructure construction, agriculture, telecommunications and aerospace and technology.

He also called on both sides sides to improve strategic communication and cooperation, maintain high-level visits and exchange views on major issues.
