AEG to supply electrical systems to Indian solar plants

AEG Power Solutions will provide complete balance of electrical systems for a 5MW solar power plant in Gujarath, India.

The company has signed a contract with Surana Venture for this project.

This is the latest contract awarded by an Indian project developer to AEG, which has already agreed to supply inverters, monitoring and measurement equipment for plants totalling 25MW. AEG will use its new Protect PV.500 inverter on the larger projects in the portfolio.

“India has officially embraced solar energy as it faces up to rising carbon emissions caused by its reliance on coal for power generation, but the driver is also the search for energy independence as India has few resources of its own to meet its rapidly growing economy,” said Enrique de la Cruz, AEG’s vice president. “As the country announced a program to reach 20,000MW generated by solar power by 2020 and was only equipped of 60MW in 2009, the potential is huge.”

Another company securing a supply agreement with an Indian developer is AEG subsidiary skytron energy. In Q1, the monitoring and supervision system provider received an order totalling €1 million to equip a 45MW plant in Western India. skytron will supply combiner boxes, data loggers and a sensor measurement technology as well as the supervision system PVGuard.

“India is a strategically important market for the photovoltaic sector. We have always been aware of this and started intensifying our close cooperation with Indian companies as early as 2007,” added Martin Sauter, managing director of skytron energy.

To help AEG to cater for its ever-growing number of clients on the Asian subcontinent, it is currently building a new manufacturing facility in Bangalore.
