Chubu to process MOX fuel in Britain

Chubu Electric Power will conduct MOX fuel processing at the Sellafield MOX Plant in Sellafield, England. This is based on an agreement concluded by Chubu Electric with Global Nuclear Fuel-Japan Co., Ltd. for the processing of MOX fuel from all plutonium recovered in Britain.

The MOX Plant in Sellafield is owned by the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, which will do the work under contract to GNF-J.

An agreement was reached between by 10 electric power companies and NDA on a general framework to conduct MOX fuel processing at SMP, and it is based on this framework that the MOX fuel processing agreement was concluded.

Chubu Electric Power previously concluded an agreement for MOX fuel processing in France with GNF-J in March 2006, and received the first MOX fuel from this arrangement at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactor No. 4 in May 2009.
