Laxiwa’s Unit 1 now connected to grid
Laxiwa is the largest hydropower station in the Yellow River basin

Laxiwa’s Unit 1 now connected to grid

All five Laxiwa Hydropower units are now connected to the grid after its Unit 1’s successful commissioning. The unit recently completed a 72-hour test run.

Widely acknowledged as an extremely challenging large hydropower project, Laxiwa Hydropower Station of Huanghe Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. features the highest dam, largest installed capacity, largest power generation and good economic index in the Yellow River Basin.

With construction preparations started in October 2001, the project had riverbed cutoff in January 2004, first dam concrete pouring in April 2006, water storage in March 2009, first two units connected to grid for power generation in May 2009 and the third at the end of September 2009. Laxiwa Hydropower Station has also created a series of records in hydropower construction of China – 7.5 years from construction preparation to water storage, 3 years from first dam concrete pouring to first unit generating electricity, 9 days for commissioning of first unit, and launch of 4×700MW units within one year.

The successful commissioning of Laxiwa Hydropower Station Unit 1 has laid a solid foundation for CPI Huanghe Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. to hit the goal of exceeding 10GW hydropower installed capacity in Qinghai province in 2010.
