Revamp causes Macau power outage

20,000 customers were affected by power outage caused by a short circuit of a transformer at Macau Norte Substation.

The incident, which transpired at 6:33 pm last 16 March, affected the areas of Fai Chi Kei, Vila Verde and Areia Preta.

According to a Companhia de Electricidade de Macau statement, "An undergoing refurbishment work of the substation installations in the area led to a more complicated power recovery operation. Over 30 CEM crew members took immediate emergency action to restore the power for the customers as soon as possible."

It further pointed out that one-third of the affected customers' power supply was resumed at 6:51 pm. All the affected customers' power supply was resumed at 7:54 pm.

CEM promised its customers that it will conduct a thorough investigation of the incident.
