Sinohydro completes first international hydropower project
The Beijing-based firm recently began operations in southeastern Cambodia with a generating capacity of 194 megawatts.
Sinohydro Corporation, the world's largest hydroelectric company, has reached a new milestone in its overseas expansion.
The Beijing-based firm recently began operating the Kamchay Hydropower Station in southeastern Cambodia that has a generating capacity of 194 megawatts. Kamchay is Sinohydro’s first internally funded Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) hydropower project overseas. The plant also marks a new stage in the overseas expansion of China's hydropower industry.
Sinohydro invested some US$300 million in Kamchay over the four-year construction period. It is licensed to operate the hydropower station for 40 years before turning it over to the Cambodian government.
Sinohydro has operations in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America.
