Taiwan to shut down 600MW coal-fired power plant

It's been unoperational for five days now due to pipe rupture.

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs said that is shutting down Mailiao Power Plant's unit 1 in Yunlin County for one month starting October 28.

Taiwan Power Co will review and ensure the stability of electricity supply during the suspension at Mailiao.

According to Taipei Times, the bureau has been serving as a mediator between Taipower and Mailiao Power for months, as Taipower insisted Mailiao Power to supply non-stop electricity to the state-run utility for the remainder of the year in accordance with their contract, but Mailiao Power’s coal-burning quota is expected to reach its limit by the end of the month.
