Bangladesh to add 13,000 MW to grid by 2016

An additional 13,000 MW electricity would be added to the national grid from 2012 to 2016, according to State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources M Enamul Haque.

 

This is part of the Bangladesh government’s master plan to produce 24,000 MW by 2021.

“Under the initiatives, 1986 MW will be added this year, 3339 MW in 2013, 3297 MW in 2014, 2182 MW in 2015 and 2350 MW in 2016,” he said while replying to House treasury bench member Nasimul Alam Chowdhury.

Under the plan, 49 power plants with capacity of 3380 MW have so far come under operation.

Another 25 plants with a capacity of 3855 MW are under construction and the setting up process of more 29 power stations are under going.

“These power plants with the capacity of 5159 MW will be come under operation by 2016,” he said.

Enamul said presently the demand of the electricity has been raised up to 7500 MW but the demand is kept under 6600 MW through applying Demand Side Management.

The present average electricity production remain 5300-5600 MW against the demand.
