Huaneng to invest $880.9M in offshore wind

Huaneng New Energy will invest US$880.9 million in the construction of an offshore wind power farm in Jiangsu province.

The wind power farm will have an installed capacity of 300 megawatts and cover an area 127 square kilometers, according to the China Securities Journal, citing an announcement from Zhao Shiming, the president of Huaneng New Energy.

A total of 100 wind power generation units, each with an installed capacity of 3 megawatts, are expected to be installed in the wind power farm.

The company predicts construction of the project will be approved and started by the second half of 2011.
After the wind power farm is operational, it is expected to produce 740 million kilowatt hours of electricity, which will subsequently save 250,000 tons in standard coal annually.
