GCL-Poly receives approval for 340MW China solar projects

GCL-Poly Energy Holdings has been given the green light to begin preparing for the construction of a 310MW ground-mounted PV system and a 30MW rooftop solar system in Dantong, Shanxi province, China, after it received approval from the National Energy Beruau.

The company believes that the approval represents the “strongest support to the solar industry from the Chinese government since the European debt crisis and the US’s anti-dumping and anti-subsidy cases against the Chinese solar products”.

Moreover, it is said to mark a milestone in large-scale solar farm projects adopted by the Chinese government. When complete, GCL-Poly’s projects will be the largest solar farm in China as well as, the company claims, one of the largest single-unit solar farms in the world.

Zhu Gongshan, chairman of GCL-Poly, said, “It is a great honour for GCL-Poly to receive the approval on the construction of such large scaled solar farm projects. This shows that the National Energy Bereau has strong confidence and trust in GCL-Poly’s capability to develop solar farm projects. It also demonstrates that the Chinese government’s strong determination to support domestic solar industry. "

Last week, when GCL Poly reported its latest financial results with a loss of HK$330 million (US$42.5 million approx) for the first six months of this year, it also announced that it had over 469MW projects within its pipeline, of which approximately 95MW was currently under construction while approximately 374MW of projects located in the US and Puerto Rico would commence construction by end of 2012.
