Meralco eyes purchase of 40,000 smart meters

Meralco included the purchase of 40,000 smart meter acquisition in their draft determination application with the Energy Regulatory Commission.

The purchase will jumpstart its entry into the smart grid system.

“We hope to be able to buy these smart meters. It is included in the next regulatory period application with the ERC,” said Jose Ronald Valles, Meralco’s head of the regulatory office.

Accordin to the philippine Star, the ERC has already issued net metering guidelines to ensure that the welfare of the consumers will be protected as well as the interest of the distribution utilities engaging in smart grid technologies.
