AREVA constructs R&D center for Chinese power industry

AREVA constructs R&D center for Chinese power industry

With an initial investment of €50 million, AREVA will construct its transmission and distribution technology center for Chinese clients. Located in Shanghai's Caohejing Pujiang High-Tech Park, China, it will be the first Research and Development center of its kind to be built by an international T&D company in China.

On completion next year, the 50,000 square meter site will feature test facilities capable of handling Ultra High Voltage power transmission equipment with rated voltages up to 1,200 kV AC and up to 1,000 kV DC. It will carry out UHV product development and material testing, and provide advanced simulation tools.

Although construction of the premises has just begun, the Center is already operational and the number of employees, engineers and technical specialists is expected to reach approximately 220 by the end of the year.

Philippe Guillemot, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AREVA T&D said, "The AREVA T&D China Technology Center is being established at a time of significant growth for our business in China. With our partners, so far this year we have opened three new local manufacturing facilities. Now, AREVA T&D has taken a step towards building a state-of-the-art R&D facility right here in China that is capable of testing Ultra High Voltage equipment at the highest ratings."

"Our new China Technology Center will enable us to provide efficient and effective technical support to our Chinese customers, while developing new products to address their needs," he added.
