Japanese firms to supply equipment to Korean power projects

Marubeni Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will supply equipment for three combined cycle electric power projects in South Korea.

The joint partnership will supply two M501J gas turbines, one steam turbine and generators for the 950MW Pyeongtaek power plant, being built in Gyeonggi-do by Korea Western Power, a subsidiary of Korea Electric Power Corporation.

The companies will also supply four J-Series gas turbines, two steam turbines and generators for the 1,900MW Dongducheon power plant also located in Gyeonggi-do.

Marubeni and MHI will deliver the core components to Samsung C&T and Hyundai Development for the project, which is being built by Dongducheon Dream Power Co.

Marubeni received its third order with MHI and Daelim Industrial for the engineering, procurement and delivery of equipment for the 950MW Ulsan 4 power plant in Ulsan Metropolitan City.

The order includes two J-Series gas turbines, a steam turbine and generators and the construction and installation work, on a full turn-key basis.

The power plant is operated by KEPCO subsidiary Korea East-West Power Company.

The projects have a collective power generation capacity of around 3,800MW.
