Siemens to supply India with parts worth $111 millionBharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) has ordered key components from Siemens Energy for a 1,600-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in India. Amounting to over $111 million, the order is set to be delivered in 2011. Siemens Energy will supply the Indian power plant with an SST5-6000 steam turbine, a water-cooled SGen5-3000W generator, an SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and controls system for the turbine-generators, and components for the second turbine-generator. This placement follows BHEL's initial order for two steam turbine-generators for the Barh II coal-fired power plant. "With this second order from India we are together with our Indian partner BHEL further expanding our leading market position for supercritical steam turbine technology," said Roland Fischer, CEO of the Products Fossil Power Generation Business Unit of Siemens Energy. Fischer added, "High efficiency levels can be attained with our supercritical steam turbines, which operate at parameters of 580 degree C and 250 bar." Each percentage point increase in efficiency in a medium-capacity coal-fired power plant brings annual CO2 savings amounting to approximately 80,000 metric tons. Do you know more about this story?
