UK to set up renewable energy research institute in Bangladesh

The United Kingdom will set up of a renewable energy research institute in Bangladesh.

 

An MoU has been signed on the matter between the Power Ministry of Bangladesh and the Energy and Climate Change Department of UK.

The research institute in Bangladesh aims to provide modern services for the people relating to generation of renewable energy and its transmission.

The institute will help in capacity building and provide expert services in developing national inventory of carbon emissions from the energy sector and harnessing CDM benefits from energy sector projects, sources said.

A six-member UK delegation headed by chief scientist of the Department of Energy and Climate Change Dr Nafis Miah hope that this research institute would play a big role to increase efficiency in production of renewable energy in Bangladesh when they called on Environment and Forest Minister Dr Hassan Mahmud at his secretariat office.

In this respect, the minister said setting up of a research institute here with joint effort of UK and Bangladesh would play a significant role in meeting the country's growing demand of electricity.
