Vietnam's 48 power plants to sell 95% of generation to EVN
Vietnam's competitive power market will be officially launched on July 1 , according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
This transpires after a one-year trial operation and several times of delays.
Under new regulations, 48 out of 73 power plants with average capacity of 30 MW each are to sell 95% of their total capacity to the country’s only supplier the Electricity of Vietnam at contract prices. The remainder will be paid in line with market level.
The proportion of contract price and market price will be applicable within one year. Later, the proportion will change to further increase the competition in the domestic power generation industry but the contracted power will be capped at no less than 60% of the total.
