Macau residents, SMEs to pay lower tariffs

CEM's Tariff A, covering consumers from residential and small and medium enterprises, remain unchanged at US$.0288 per kWh.

However, according to the Companhia de Electricidade de Macau, the said rates will affect the company's sales revenues.

Tariff A consumers are supplied by low voltage network and represents more than 99.6 percent of Companhia de Electricidade de Macau customers.

"In accordance to the calculation based on the formula published in the Concession Contract, the Tariff Clause Adjustment of Tariff A should be 26 cents. Nevertheless, to keep fulfilling its social responsibility and considering the impact of a lifting tariff on residential customers and small and medium enterprises, with the support of the SAR government CEM decided to maintain the Tariff A at 23 cents (US$.0288)," declared an official Companhia de Electricidade de Macau statement.

"Implementing such decision the electricity sales revenue of CEM will be consequently affected," it further emphasized.

CEM also ascribed to its good management and employees' devotion the 99.9995 percent score it achieved in the index internationally used to assess the reliability performance, while keeping tariffs among the lowest of the major cities around the world.

Meanwhile, Tariff B and Tariff C, mainly entertainment enterprises supplied by medium voltage network, are pegged at US$.0326 per kWh according to the legal values in force.
