Amogy, LOTTE Fine Chemical to develop ammonia-to-power projects in South Korea
MOU covers hydrogen refueling, distributed power generation, and marine bunkering.
Amogy and LOTTE Fine Chemical (LFC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop ammonia-to-hydrogen and ammonia-to-power solutions in South Korea.
LFC operates Asia’s largest ammonia import, storage and distribution networks and has completed the world’s first commercial import of green ammonia and first domestic ship-bunkering supply using the fuel.
Under the MOU, the companies will explore three areas: hydrogen refueling infrastructure, distributed ammonia-to-power generation, and marine ammonia bunkering.
For hydrogen refueling, LFC will supply green ammonia through its overseas procurement and domestic infrastructure, while Amogy will use its ammonia cracking technology to convert the fuel into high-purity hydrogen on-site at refueling stations.
For distributed power generation, LFC will provide ammonia supply, storage and logistics, while Amogy will supply its ammonia-to-power modules using fuel cell or internal combustion engine configurations for commercial and community-scale sites.
The companies will also explore supplying ammonia to vessels equipped with Amogy’s ammonia-to-power technology, using LFC’s ammonia terminal at Ulsan Port and its ship-bunkering capabilities.
Amogy CEO Seonghoon Woo said the partnership would connect ammonia supply infrastructure with downstream technology to support hydrogen refueling, distributed power and marine applications in South Korea. “LOTTE Fine Chemical's ammonia infrastructure, paired with our
ammonia-to-hydrogen and ammonia-to-power technology, gives us a strong foundation to advance hydrogen refueling, distributed power, and marine applications across the region.”
Suk Min Hwang, vice president of the Ammonia Business Division at LFC, added that the collaboration would extend the company’s ammonia infrastructure into new downstream applications and support South Korea’s clean ammonia and hydrogen economy.
Amogy and LFC will continue evaluating opportunities across the three areas, with project scope and timelines to be finalized.
