Tata Power Renewable advances India's clean energy with 800 MW project

Project combines 400 MW of wind capacity and 400 MW of solar capacity.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has started construction of an 800-megawatt (MW) renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh.

The project includes 400 MW of wind capacity in Ananthapuram and 400 MW of solar capacity in Kurnool.

TPREL will develop the wind project, whilst Suzlon will execute the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works for the wind component.

Of the solar capacity, 200 MW will be developed as a Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project for NTPC, incorporating a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a storage capacity of 25 MW/50 megawatt-hours (MWh). The remaining 200 MW is available for future allocation.

The project has secured 800 MW of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity at the Ananthapuram II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations.

It is being implemented under the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, which aims to attract large-scale clean energy investments, expand renewable energy capacity, and support sustainable industrial growth in the state.

The development will span 3,462 acres, including 2,700 acres for the solar facility and 760 acres for the wind project.

According to TPREL, the project will also generate annual lease rental income and create around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs during its development, construction, and operational phases.
