New power at the Energy Ministry

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik said on Monday the government would fill several vacant positions at the ministry’s directorate generals by the end of the year.

Jero said the final assessment team would review the candidates to take over the ministry’s directorates generals on both oil and gas, and renewable energy and energy conservation this month.

“There are many things to be considered but the team will remain objective and work as fast as they can,” he told reporters at his office in Jakarta.

Evita Herawati Legowo retired from the position of oil and gas chief on Nov. 30. Her jobs have temporarily handled by secretary to the oil and gas director general Edy Hermantoro. The renewable energy and energy conservation director general’s position has been open since Luluk Sumiarso, also a former oil and gas chief, retired from the office in June 2011.

Electricity affairs director general Jarman is acting as director general of the new energy, renewable energy and energy conservation.

The ministry’s minerals and coal director general Thamrin Sihite will retire in January 2013.
