Australia's ACEnergy sells 250MW Yanco BESS to BW ESS

Commercial operations are targeted for 2028.

BW ESS has acquired the 250MW/1,000MWh Yanco Battery Energy Storage System (Yanco BESS) in New South Wales from Australian renewable energy developer ACEnergy.

The Riverina project will connect to the Yanco 132kV substation and provide firming capacity, energy arbitrage and system security services to the National Electricity Market.

Construction will begin later this year, with commercial operations targeted for 2028. Once operational, Yanco BESS will have enough capacity to supply around 430,000 homes for four hours.

CATL has been appointed system integrator, while ACLE Services will handle balance of plant works and provide long-term operations and maintenance services.

The project’s revenues are supported by a capacity swap providing long-term contracted cash flow.

ACEnergy developed Yanco BESS through ready-to-build status, securing land, planning approval, grid connection and project rights and contracts.

BW ESS will oversee construction and long-term operations, while retaining existing community commitments, including a $3 million Voluntary Planning Agreement with Leeton Shire Council.

Yanco BESS is ACEnergy’s fifth large-scale battery energy storage project to reach financial close.
