Korea to resume construction of Shin Kori units 5, 6

Works will restart by end-November 2017.

South Korea has decided to resume work on the two stalled units of Shin Kori nuclear power plant, units 5 and 6.

The decision to revive construction of the 1,400MW reactors has been approved by President Moon Jae-in after a government survey revealed that majority of South Koreans support resuming the project.

Construction of the two nuclear units, which were already 30% complete, was previously put on hold in July this year as part of President Moon's vow to phase out nuclear energy.

The reactors are owned by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power. The firm had already shelled out $1.4b on the project.
