Simec Atlantis Energy installs tidal power generation equipment in Japan

It has generated 10 MWh of clean electricity 10 days after installation.

Singapore-incorporated and Scotland-headquartered technology developer Simec Atlantis Energy (SAE) has installed tidal turbine and generation equipment in the Goto Island chain in Japan.

Within 10 days of operation, the tidal turbine has registered its first 10 MWh of clean electricity generation.

SAE announced that it has provided lease of tidal power generation equipment and offshore construction services to Kyuden Mirai Energy for a pilot turbine in the straights of Naru Island.

“The SAE-designed-and-manufactured AR500 tidal turbine was assembled at SAE’s operations and maintenance base at Nigg Energy Park in Scotland [and] was assembled and tested in nine weeks before shipping to Japan,” the company added.

Construction of the tidal power generation equipment took only five days to complete.
