Taiwan to pick floating wind demo projects by 2027
Contractor selection starts in 2027 under technical financial and sustainability criteria.
Taiwan plans to select two floating offshore wind demonstration projects, with the option to add a third, each with six to 12 floating turbine platforms.
The Energy Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs said contractor selection will begin in 2027.
The agency outlined the selection process at an 8 September briefing, with evaluations covering technical, financial, and sustainability capabilities.
The projects are expected to be completed and connected to the grid by the end of 2032.
Projects that install all floating platforms or connect at least half of them to the grid by 2032 may complete construction and grid connection in 2033.
“Taiwan is promoting floating demonstration projects to verify the feasibility of technologies, finances, and infrastructure as offshore wind deployments move towards deeper waters,” the Energy Administration said.
