Wärtsilä to supply 13 engines for Australia’s 300-MW plant
Engines can currently run on hydrogen blends of up to 25% by volume.
Wärtsilä has been selected to supply its 46TS engines for Australia’s largest-ever reciprocating engine power plant.
The 300-megawatt plant will provide grid balancing and system security, with its fast-starting capacity supporting the integration of renewable energy into the power system.
The plant will operate with 13 Wärtsilä 46TS-SG gas engines, which can currently operate with hydrogen blends of up to 25% by volume.
Wärtsilä booked the order in the third quarter of 2026, with the engines scheduled for delivery in early 2029. The plant is expected to become fully operational the following year.
“Our engine technology combines the efficiency, flexibility and reliability needed to support Australia's evolving energy system,” said Frederic Carron, Vice President, Middle East and Asia at Wärtsilä Energy.
