Indonesia’s Pertamina speeds up clean energy shift

The company will prioritise the development of New and Renewable Energy.

State-owned energy firm PT Pertamina (Persero) has set its energy transition program as its top priority, in line with Indonesia’s renewable energy target.

Pertamina plans to prioritise the development of New and Renewable Energy to help contribute to Indonesia's Energy mix target by 2030.

“Pertamina is committed to being known not only as a global energy player but also as an environmentally friendly company, socially responsible, and upholding good corporate governance,” Nicke Widyawati, CEO of PT Pertamina (Persero) at the Indonesia Pavilion - Dubai Expo, said.

The company has also been involved in Indonesia’s energy transition as it set a 30% emissions reduction target before 2030.

"We believe that by realising strategic programs in collaboration with many partners across countries, energy sustainability is not merely just a discussion, but also a concrete action in which the impacts can be experienced by everyone," Widyawati also said.

Pertamina is also continuing to increase the use of new and renewable energy, and implementing carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) to increase production in several fields.

Widyawati noted that Indonesia has a strong backbone to accelerate the clean energy shift, considering Indonesia's geothermal resources are abundantly spread across the Ring of Fire.
