NTPC commissions 56MW Kawas Solar project

Its solar installed capacity is now at 69,454MW.

NTPC’s 56-megawatt (MW) Kawas Solar Photovoltaic Project in Gujarat started its operations, bringing the company’s total installed capacity to 69,454MW.

In a statement, the company said it is “steady lowering” its carbon footprint with the installations of renewable energy projects.

Its pipeline includes the 262MW floating solar over 1,300 acres of its own reservoir, 242MW of which has been commissioned. NTPC’s projects also include the country’s largest floating solar of 100MW at Ramagundam in Telangana, 92MW at Kayamkulam in Kerala, and 25MW each in Sinhadri, Andhra Pradesh, and Kawas in Gujarat.

“These projects would light more than 2,00,000 households, and would be instrumental in reducing over half million tons of CO2 emission on an annual basis. Besides these, the projects would entail a saving of 5 Trillion litres of water per annum, sufficient to meet the yearly water requirements of 15,000 households,” it said.

NTPC Group aims to reach 60 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy by 2032. It currently has commissioned 2.3GW of renewable capacity, and 3.9GW is under implementation and execution.

It also has 4.9GW of renewable energy capacity under tendering process.
