Pertamina backs Indonesia’s 2060 net-zero target

Indonesia raised its carbon emission reduction target to 31.89% by 2030.

State-owned PT Pertamina is in support of Indonesia’s plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.

"In terms of emission reduction, Pertamina has set a target of 30% emission reduction in 2030, versus our 2010 baseline," Pertamina's president director and CEO Nicke Widyawati said during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt.

“In 2021, Pertamina has succeeded in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 7.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents or 29.09% compared to the 2010 baseline.”

Indonesia had increased its GHG emission reduction target to 31.89% through its own efforts and to 43.2% with international assistance.

In line with this, Pertamina had also earmarked around US$40b of its cumulative CAPEX up to 2060 to biofuels, renewable energy sources, carbon capture and storage, and battery amongst others.
