Masdar, Kazakhstan to develop up to 1GW wind power plant

This is the first investment of the Abu Dhabi-based firm in Kazakhstan.

Abu Dhabi-based Masdar entered an agreement with the Kazakh Ministry of Energy to develop up to 1 gigawatt of a wind power plant in the Central Asian nation.

This agreement is Masdar’s first investment in Kazakhstan, the company said in a statement.

Under the agreement, three parties will develop the project with the 500-megawatt to be initially deployed as the first phase with the potential inclusion of battery storage.

The Central Asian country aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2060 and ramp up the share of renewable energy in its local electricity generation to 10% by 2030 and 50% by 2050.
