Seizing Opportunities & Mitigating Risks for Turbogenerator Operations
Overview Seizing Opportunities & Mitigating Risks for Turbogenerator Operations
A new operating reality is hitting energy systems and turbogenerators are on the front line. Across power generation and oil and gas, operating patterns are shifting fast, pushing generators into far more variable duty profiles.
Integration of renewables onto the grid demands more flexible operation from conventional power plants, AI-driven data-centre growth is driving more rapid and variable power demand, and dynamic process changes in oil and gas add further variability. Whilst generators are built for stress, today’s pace and fluctuation accelerate wear and raise reliability risk. But operators can still unlock meaningful efficiency and performance gains.
Meeting these demands takes deep generator expertise, and this is where Sulzer brings real strength. Backed by advanced diagnostics, specialist engineering and experience from many generator projects globally, Sulzer helps operators strengthen reliability, improve performance and extend asset life.
In this webinar we will be talking about:
- O&M trends and rising reliability challenges
- How flexible, variable-duty operation is affecting generator performance
- Critical failure modes, including partial discharge and insulation degradationO&M trends and rising reliability challenges
- Case studies on diagnostics-led repairs, fatigue issues, and major reliability events

Dr. Yali Natalie Feng is a specialist in electromechanical design. Through her coveted experience in commercial and academic organizations, she has developed a highly in-depth understanding of electrical machine design and HV insulation that she applies to real-world operational challenges.
Natalie started her career as a junior machine designer for a motor OEM in China and, after qualifying as a chartered engineer, she led a team that developed high efficiency IE2 and IE3 motors, which were sold in Europe. Following that were seven years in academia. Researching her PhD, she developed a new analytical model for the accurate evaluation of losses in induction machines. She also collaborated with industry on R&D projects, including the development of superconducting technology on electrical machines and nuclear power plants.
In 2010, Natalie joined Sulzer and has been providing expert technical support for customers’ electrical repair, overhaul and rewind projects.
Natalie earned her Bachelor of Engineering at Shenyang University of Technology, China and her PhD from the University of Manchester, UK. Her work has been extensively published in academic journals and presented at international conferences.
