Tokyu Land and SolarDuck launches Japan’s first offshore floating solar PV

The facility can generate power of 80 kW to 100 kW.

Tokyu Land Corporation and SolarDuck, in partnership with Kyocera Communication Systems, completed the deployment of the first offshore floating solar photovoltaic (OPFV) power plant in Japan.

In a joint statement, the companies said the OPFV, located on the sea surface under the Toko Bay eSG Project, can generate electricity of between 80 kilowatts (kW) to 100 kW.

The power generated from the project will be used to power the Open Street Corporation’s electric mobility vehicles and an electric boat.

Located on the sea surface under the Toko Bay eSG Project, the OPFV can generate electricity of between 80 kilowatts (kW) and 100 kW.

The company will also look into the potential use of renewable energy for future events in the Takeshiba area. 

SolarDuck and Everblue Technologies have been working on the technology since November 2022 and plan to hold a demonstration of power generation through the OFPV, storage of electricity in batteries on the ground and storage batteries’ transportation.
