World Bank OKs $350m grant for Tajikistan’s Rogun hydropower plant

This will provide better electricity access to 10 million people.

The World Bank has approved a $350m International Development Association (IDA) grant to help fund the Rogun Hydropower Plant (HPP) Project in Tajikistan.

In a statement, the World Bank said the project has a projected installed capacity of 3,780 megawatts, providing better electricity access to 10 million people. About 70% of the power it will generate will be exported to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to replace fossil fuel generation.

The Rogun HPP will require $6.29b to complete, which will be financed by project revenues, domestic resources and development partners. This investment in the project will help facilitate $2.97b in grants and concessional funds from a group of development partners and investors.
