Asia Pacific leads global electricity procurement market in Q3
Manila Electric was the largest issuer in the region with 2.9GW procured from three tenders.
The Asia Pacific dominated the market for electricity procurement tenders after it took up 35.4% of the total mix with 17 tenders in July-September 2019, according to GlobalData. It was followed by North America with 14 tenders (29.2% share) and Europe with 12 tenders (25% share).
Electricity procurement tenders in Q3 2019 saw 48 tenders announced, marking a drop of 39% over the last four-quarter average of 79.
Manila Electric of the Philippines was the second largest issuer of procurement tenders in the period 2,900MW from three tenders. It joined the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Baltimore Gas and Electric, which procured 4,000MW and 1,729MW respectively.
Amongst the technologies, solar accounted for 22 tenders with a 39.3% share, followed by wind with 17 tenders and a 30.4% share and biopower with eight tenders and a 14.3% share.
