Vietnam’s electricity output up 12.6% in February

Coal-fired thermal power dominated the first two months.

Vietnam’s electricity production and import reached 22.24 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in February, up 12.6% from last year, according to the Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

For the first two months, output reached 45.06 billion kWh, led by coal-fired thermal plants accounting for 55.1%, followed by hydropower with 20.6%, and renewable energy 16.3%. Imported electricity accounted for 1.9%.

So far, EVN’s major power projects, comprising the Hoa Binh hydropower extension, Quang Trach I thermal power plant, and Bac Ai pumped-storage hydropower plant, were advanced on schedule.

Regarding the power grid, the state-owned company initiated 13 new projects and completed 28 grid projects, including the 500-kilovolt Monsoon – Thanh My transmission line for power import from Laos.

EVN targets the Hoa Binh hydropower extension project to start generating power in the fourth quarter, and Unit 1 of Quang Trach I thermal power plant to be connected to the grid before 2 September.
