GPG inaugurates large-scale hybrid solar-battery project in Western Australia

Its generation capacity can power 51,000 homes.

Global Power Generation (GPG) has inaugurated its Cunderdin Hybrid PV Solar + BESS Project, a large-scale solar and battery energy storage system in Western Australia.

In a statement, GPG said this is the first hybridisation project of its kind developed by the Naturgy group. It consists of 229,500 modules and features a photovoltaic solar capacity of 128 megawatts (MW), combined with a battery energy storage system of 55 MW/220 megawatt-hours.

Cunderdin commenced operations after more than three months of performance operations under commissioning. Its hybridised system is designed to provide four hours of constant supply at peak demand every day of the year.

The project is expected to prevent 140,000 tonnes of carbon emissions and will generate energy equivalent to the annual consumption of 51,000 homes.
