Kakodkar to lead all Indian solar projects

Dr. Anil Kakodkar, former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, will be the chairman India’s National Solar Energy Company.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Resources has confirmed Dr Kakodkar’s appointment.

The recently-formed and not-for-profit National Solar Energy Company will oversee all solar projects in the country, including those not under the umbrella of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, India’s ambitious initiative that aims to see 20GW generated through solar by 2022.

Mr K. Subramanya, CEO of Tata BP Solar and the Chairman of the Solar Energy Task Force of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, described the setting up of the company as a “very important development.”
