Australia green lights 300-MW Cambridge Solar Farm
This can power up to 123,000 Queensland homes.
Australia has given its environmental approval for the 300-megawatt (MW) Cambridge Solar Farm in Queensland, which will be connected to an existing transmission infrastructure.
The project, located 80 kilometres South of Townsville, will be able to generate power for 123,000 Queensland homes, Tanya Plibersek, minister for the Environment and Water, said in a statement.
It will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 670,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, which is equivalent to taking more than 228,000 cars off the road for a year.
The ministry said this marks another step to make Australia a leader in renewable energy.
“I’ve ticked off more than 60 renewable energy projects in two years - enough to power almost 7 million homes,” Plibersek said
“Australians have a choice between a renewable energy transition that’s already underway and driving down prices, or paying for an expensive nuclear fantasy that may never happen,” she added.
