UAE opens Q3 Clean Energy Certificates auction
This will include wind-based CECs.
The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has opened the registration for the Clean Energy Certificates (CEC) auction for the third quarter.
In a statement, EWEC said this quarter’s auction will include wind-based CEC from the UAE Wind Programme.
“By incorporating wind energy CECs into our auctions, we have expanded the range of renewable and clean energy CECs available, empowering organisations to meet their sustainability targets using electricity from a variety of sources,” EWEC CEO Othman Al Ali said.
CECs are issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy in units of one megawatt-hour. These certify that the electricity consumed by the redeeming Abu Dhabi-based entity originates from a renewable or clean energy source.
The auction will close on 13 September 2024.
