CEM holds power industry services seminar

Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. recently hosted the “16th Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau Power Industry Services Seminar” with around 100 delegates from over 20 areas.

They were invited to discuss and share their experience in regards to the conference theme “Lean Management, Services Excellence”.

Franklin Willemyns said in his opening speech that with the implementation of the “12th Five-Year Plan” and the signing of Guangdong-Macau Cooperation Framework Agreement, the development and integration of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau have been sped up. The “Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau Power Industry Services Seminar” has become increasingly important as a platform for the three areas to strengthen the friendship, exchange valuable experience, and enhance the cooperation. This year’s theme “Lean Management, Service Excellence” covers two hot topics of “Smart Grid” and “Automated Management”.

Building intelligence into the power grid provides the information backbone to better understand energy use and empowers utilities and customers to better manage the energy environment and practices. Thus, CEM has defined a Smart Grid development roadmap. CEM has also extended the value of the networks by using Automated Metering Infrastructure for the large commercial customers. For the customers, this would mean higher empowerment with extra information and better communications. For the company, it would also be reductions of staff in the field, which would lower costs and improve operational efficiency.

Through this seminar, the power industry professionals from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau had in-depth discussions on the topic “Lean Management, Service Excellence”. They shared their experience and exchanged views on Customer Services Best Practices, aiming at encouraging improvement in the quality of the service.

Global clean energy tech market to hit $2t by 2035
This is fuelled by investments as countries aim to enhance energy security. The global clean energy technology market is projected to grow from $700b in 2023 to over $2t by 2035, nearing the scale of the crude oil market, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).This growth is fuelled by significant investments in clean technology manufacturing as countries aim to enhance energy security, maintain economic competitiveness, and cut emissions. Investment is concentrated in regions with established positions in clean energy, particularly China, the European Union, the UK, and increasingly, India.Whilst the US, EU, and India have taken measures to support their clean energy sectors, China is expected to remain the world's manufacturing hub. By 2035, China's clean technology exports are forecasted to exceed $340b—comparable to projected oil export revenues from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa contribute less than 5% of global cleantech production value, yet the IEA suggests that these areas still hold opportunities within the clean energy economy. Developing economies, for instance, could leverage competitive advantages to advance in the value chain beyond resource extraction. The IEA said Southeast Asia could become one of the most cost-effective regions for producing polysilicon and wafers for solar panels over the next decade.
