Philippines' NGCP starts work on ambitious US$1b transmission project

The 72-km project will connect Luzon geothermal plants to Visayas-Mindanao grid.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines announced that it has started working on its US$1b Visayas-Mindanao tranmission project. It will connect geothermal power plants in Luzon and the Visayas to Southern Visayas and Mindanao grids.

The project will be a 72-kilometer submarine cable that will extend by at least 100 kilometers each in Zamboanga and Cebu areas.

The initial target of completion will be in 2022, but NGCP has committed to finish the project by December 2020.
