Taiwan's Interior Minister visiting Japan for nuclear energy talks
Meeting with officials from Japanese regulatory agencies.
Interior Minister Lee Hong-yuan is visiting Japan this week to learn more about how nuclear energy is used for the country's development.
Lee will stay in Japan for a few days during which he will meet with officials from Japanese regulatory agencies for nuclear power and to learn more about Japanese nuclear disaster prevention and relief efforts.
Lee's visit to Japan comes amid a heated debate in Taiwan on whether the controversial fourth nuclear power plant in Gongliao, New Taipei City, should be made operational.
A proposal to hold a national referendum on the fate of the fourth nuclear power plant in Taiwan has been sent to the Legislature and awaiting the final decision of lawmakers.
