Shanghai Electric seals RE deals with Masdar and Mawarid
They will develop solar and wind energy projects.
Shanghai Electric has entered into agreements with Abu Dhabi Future Energy (Masdar) and Mawarid Group for renewable energy initiatives in Middle East.
In a statement, Shanghai Electric said its agreement with Masdar involves a 2-gigawatt Sadawi photovoltaic project, the former’s largest solar EPC project globally. Thee facility is expected to generated more than 6 billion kilowatt-hour annually, meeting the electricity needs of 700,000 households and cutting carbon emissions by 3 million tonnes.
"This is a new starting point for Shanghai Electric and Masdar to carry out comprehensive cooperation and an important milestone for Shanghai Electric to further establish itself in the Middle East's new energy market," said Wu Lei, chairman of Shanghai Electric Group.
The agreement with Mawarid, meanwhile, includes wind turbine supply, technology transfer, and localised factory design in Oman. The collaboration aims to harness the country’s natural resources, create a local supply chain, and promote long-term economic growth.
Wu said Oman’s Vision 2040 and Green Hydrogen Strategy align with Shanghai Electric's strategic development goals.
“Through technology licensing and localized supply chain development, we aim to drive the implementation of more high-quality projects, contribute to Oman's energy transformation, and help shape a new chapter in China-Arab energy cooperation,” he added.
