25MW solar PV plant in Australia plugs in ahead of schedule

Developer Elecnor Australia started construction in July in Queensland.

A 25MW solar photovoltaic plant in Queensland came online two months ahead of schedule. Its developer, Elecnor Australia, kicked off construction in July on Queensland's largest solar power plant, Barcaldine Remote Community Solar Farm.

The plant has 78,000 PV panels with single-axis trackers sprawled across 90 ha of land. Expected capacity is around 57GWh per year, equivalent to almost 10% of Australia's large-scale solar power.

The project's cost is around $70m, funded through a $22.8m grant from Australian Renewable Energy Agency and $20m debt funding from Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
