RE-related jobs almost doubled in the last 10 years

Jobs in the renewable energy sector reached 13.7 million in 2022.

Renewable energy-related jobs nearly rose by 100% in the past decade to reach 13.7 million in 2022, with China as the leading market as it accounted for 41% of the global employment.

In a report, the International Renewable Energy Agency and the International Labour Organization said renewable energy employment rose by a million in 2021 alone but noted that most jobs are concentrated in a few markets.

Aside from China, other countries leading in the renewable sector employment include Brazil, the European Union countries, India and the US.

Per sector, solar photovoltaics was the largest employer with 4.9 million jobs in 2022, representing more than a third of the total workforce. Employment in hydropower and biofuels remained the same as in 2022 with around 2.5 million each.

It is followed by the wind sector with 1.4 million jobs.
