Australia lists over 20 GW of priority renewable energy projects

This will benefit over 9 million households.

Australia has unveiled its list of priority renewable energy projects that could deliver over 20 gigawatts (GW) of power generation and storage.

According to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, the priority list consists of 24 transmission, and 32 generation and storage projects.

“If approved through Commonwealth, state and territory regulatory planning and environmental processes, these projects could deliver an additional 16 GW of generation and approximately 6 GW of storage capacity across the nation,” the department said.

The generation projects will also be able to energise over 9 million homes, whilst the storage projects could meet peak energy demand for over 5 million homes for up to 4 hours.

Some of the projects included in the list are Burrup (Murujuga) Corridor in Western Australia, the Central-West Orana REZ Network Infrastructure Project in New South Wales, the CopperString in Queensland, and the Barwon Solar Farm in Victoria.

The government said the list will be updated regularly and made public to ensure transparency.
