Pertamina Geothermal and Turkish partner on renewable energy study
The collaboration will focus on geothermal energy.
PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) has signed a joint study agreement with Turkey's Zorlu Enerji Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., boosting intergovernmental renewable energy cooperation.
In a statement, PGE said the agreement will look into the development of a geothermal power plant project in the geothermal working area owned by Zorlu Enerji in Turkey.
“This collaboration is expected to open up opportunities to accelerate transfer of technology, build a strong domestic geothermal industry supply chain, and attract investments in the development of new and renewable energy sector, particularly for Indonesia,” said PGE President Director Julfi Hadi.
The JSA comes after the memorandum of cooperation between Indonesia and Turkey where both countries agreed to strengthen each other’s energy resilience.
Geothermal energy plays a key role in Indonesia’s net zero emissions goal before 2060. The country has reserves reaching 24 gigawatts (GW) or the equivalent of 40% of the world’s geothermal reserves.
PGE is targeting an increase of installed capacity from 672 megawatts to 1 GW within the next two years, and 1.7 GW by 2034. In terms of potential, the company has identified 3 GW of reserves across 10 independently-managed Geothermal Working Areas.
