Masdar receives first JA Solar modules for Abu Dhabi RTC project

Project will help meet rising electricity demand from AI infrastructure.

Masdar has received the first batch of photovoltaic (PV) modules from JA Solar for its round-the-clock (RTC) solar-plus-storage project in Abu Dhabi.

JA Solar was selected in 2025 as one of the preferred suppliers for a 3GW PV module order for the project.

Located in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region, the RTC project will combine a 5.2GW solar photovoltaic plant with a 19GWh battery energy storage system to provide 1GW of continuous renewable baseload power. Once completed, it is expected to be the world’s largest solar-plus-storage project.

The project is scheduled to begin full operations in 2027 and will help meet growing electricity demand driven by economic growth and expanding AI infrastructure.

For the project, JA Solar is supplying its DeepBlue PV modules, which are designed for utility-scale renewable energy projects and high-demand applications, including AI data centers. The modules are built for continuous operation, harsh environmental conditions, and large-scale deployment.
