Chubu Electric seeks researchers for Hamaoka nuclear plant

Chubu Electric Power is seeking research proposals to improve the safety of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station which has been inactive since 2011 following the .
In a statement, Chubu Electric said it aims to start the research, which will run for one to two years, in fiscal year 2025.
Eligible applicants include researchers from nationwide universities and public research institutes, as well as companies based in Shizuoka Prefecture.
The fields of research targeted in the call are fundamental research that could advance future nuclear power technology, research aimed at enhancing the safety of existing nuclear power plants, studies focused on improving the decommissioning process for Units 1 and 2 of the Hamaoka plant, and research aimed at optimising the maintenance and operation of Units 3, 4, and 5 at the same facility.
Application period will run until 8 January 2025.
An external expert committee will review applications. Successful candidates will be selected through a two-stage review process.
