Consortium formed to develop floating offshore wind in New South Wales
The projects are planned to be developed in Hunter and Illawarra regions.
Australian developer Spark Renewables has formed a consortium with global developer Simply Blue Group and Subsea7 to build floating offshore wind projects in New South Wales.
In a joint statement, the companies target to develop the projects in the Hunter and Illawarra regions.
They noted that the proposal for the Hunter-Central Coast and Illawarra Renewable Energy Zones would be beneficial to the development of the sector.

“Australia’s emerging offshore wind industry provides a potential pathway for the thousands of jobs expected to transition from existing industries into renewable energy. This is a critical opportunity for workers in New South Wales, as the state seeks to decarbonise its energy supply,” the companies said.
The potential future Commonwealth offshore wind zones, including the declared Hunter offshore wind area, would also support the sector’s growth, the parties said.
