Iberdrola commissions wind-solar project in Australia
The combined 210MW wind and 107MW solar capacity is its first hybrid project globally.
Iberdrola started the operations of its first wind-solar hybrid project globally in Australia, Port Augusta, with 210-megawatt (MW) of wind power and 107MW solar capacity.
In a statement, Iberdrola said the project located in South Australia, with an investment of A$500m, will prevent the emission of 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually and generate electricity to power around 180,000 households.

The project will support South Australia’s target of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030.
“In addition to facilitating decarbonisation, the plant will help reduce consumer electricity prices and advance energy self-sufficiency. To generate the same amount of power as Port Augusta will produce with a traditional combined cycle would require around 155 million cubic metres of gas per year,” it said.
